"The COML program at Gonzaga is amazing. Regardless of your field, you will benefit from the communication and leadership skills taught. One thing that I think really stands out about this program is how the professors allow you to tailor the content to fit with what you want to do. The relevance to your life is immediate. Another great aspect is that courses are offered both on-campus and online. This flexibility allows the working professional to complete the master's degree in a timely manner."
Nicole Rogers, newscast director
“When I started the COML program in the spring of 2007, I was the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. anchor at the CBS affiliate in Augusta, Georgia. I'd been working as an investigative reporter and news anchor for 15 years, and was hoping to earn my MA in order to open up other career opportunities for me in the future. I never dreamed that just a few months after starting the program that career opportunities would find me so quickly.
I had just started my first courses, when I was reporting a story about a wounded warrior who had lost her leg in an IED blast in Iraq, and while at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, had to wait for physical therapy because of crowded conditions there. She was transferred to our Active Duty Rehab Unit at our VA medical center, and within 3 weeks was off her walker and on her prosthetic leg full time. This time, however, rather than just reporting the news, I became very involved in this young woman's story. What I learned in my coursework forced me to look at what I could do as an individual, and ways I could lead the community in making sure our wounded warriors get the gold standard of care they deserve. I am currently leading an effort to expand Augusta's capabilities to care for men and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, in large part, I think, because my studies in the COML program have enabled me to do so.
I do believe Gonzaga helped me tap into abilities I wasn't sure I had, and has enabled me to find a career that's in many ways more fulfilling than I ever dreamed."
