What is Servant Leadership?
Servant Leadership is a leadership philosophy that challenges traditional views of leadership as a path to power, authority and control.
Servant Leaders believe the true purpose of leadership is to provide better service to individuals and institutions. As an idea and a practice, Servant Leadership encourages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and the ethical use of power and empowerment.
While taught by several religious groups, including the Jesuit community, Servant Leadership is not specific to religious leadership. Many business, government and organizational leaders may choose to adopt its principles.
Gonzaga University's M.A. in Organizational Leadership degree now offers a certificate in Servant Leadership for those seeking to develop their leadership potential according to these ideas.
